Smart Seeds & Herbs

What Smart Seeds & Herbs lists

This section gathers the plant material of the Mycotrop Smartshop in one place. Each product name gives the common name and the form, and most also give the origin and the Latin name, so you can compare products by plant, plant part and cut. Like everything at Mycotrop, these products are sold strictly as collectible or souvenir items: the pages describe the material, not a use. Do not consume.

The range at a glance

The table groups the range by form, as stated in the product names, with a few examples and the usual sizes.

Where the plants come from

Brazil, Peru, Mexico and South Africa are the origins named most often in the product names. Smaller groups come from Ecuador, Thailand, the United States, the Netherlands, India, Sri Lanka, Gabon, Cameroon, China and Romania, and single products from France, Indonesia, Poland and Colombia. Some products name no origin, and this page does not add one.

Botanical names

Latin names are checked against the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) through GBIF whenever a product page is rewritten. For example, the Peruvian pau d'arco bark belongs to the species WCVP accepts as Handroanthus serratifolius, formerly Tabebuia serratifolia, and the Brazilian emburana seeds belong to Amburana cearensis.

Three examples from the linked products: lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, is a member of the mint family (Lamiaceae) native to France, Italy and Spain. Dragon's blood is the sap of Croton lechleri, a tree of the spurge family native to Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Chilcuague is the root of Heliopsis longipes, a member of the daisy family native to north-eastern Mexico.
