Entada rheedii seeds, single or in a set of five
This listing is for whole seeds of Entada rheedii, a species of the legume family, Fabaceae. The product photo shows glossy, dark brown seeds next to a kraft pouch whose sage-green Herborist label reads "African Dream Herb", "Entada rheedii", "[seeds]" and "1 seed". Rheedii or rheedei?
Both spellings refer to the same species, named by Sprengel in 1825. The World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) and the GBIF backbone use Entada rheedei, while the pouch and several regional checklists write Entada rheedii. WCVP lists older names such as Entada pursaetha DC. and Mimosa entada L. as synonyms.
A native range well beyond Africa
Despite the name "African dream herb", WCVP records the species as native across the Old World tropics. In Africa its range runs from Senegal, Guinea and Sierra Leone to Cameroon, DR Congo, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, and south to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and KwaZulu-Natal, with Madagascar and the Comoros. In Asia it covers India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, southern China and Taiwan, then the Philippines, Borneo, Sumatra, Java and New Guinea, reaching Queensland, the Northern Territory and the Solomon Islands. The label does not say where these seeds were collected.
Not the same plant as African dream root
The similar trade names are easy to confuse. African dream root (Silene capensis), whole root is a different plant from the carnation family, Caryophyllaceae; WCVP lists Silene capensis as a synonym of Silene undulata subsp. undulata.
