Botanical background

The name Turnera diffusa was published in 1820 in Roemer and Schultes' Systema Vegetabilium, based on a name by Willdenow. The World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, accepts it and places the genus Turnera in the passion flower family, Passifloraceae; older classifications, including the GBIF backbone, still use a separate family, Turneraceae. Plant checklists from the Dominican Republic describe it as a shrub.

Where the species grows

WCVP lists a wide native range: Texas; central, northern and southern Mexico; Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama; the Bahamas, Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and smaller Caribbean islands; and north-eastern and south-eastern Brazil. In Brazil, Flora e Funga do Brasil records it in caatinga, cerrado, rocky upland grassland and semi-deciduous forest. The Herborist pouch does not state where these leaves were collected.

Packaging and delivery

Orders are packed on business days and leave in plain outer packaging with no reference to the contents. When a tracking number exists, you get the link by email once the parcel is on its way. Delivery estimates, the 14-day withdrawal period and the statutory exceptions are listed on Delivery, tracking and returns.

Frequently asked questions

Which part of the plant does the pouch contain?

Cut leaves, as stated in the supplier listing. The Herborist label itself only carries the tag "[herb]".

Which sizes can I order?

50 g, 250 g and 1 kg of the same cut leaves.

Why does the family say Passifloraceae and not Turneraceae?

WCVP now includes Turnera in the passion flower family, Passifloraceae. Turneraceae is the older family name that some databases still use.

Where is Turnera diffusa native?

From Texas and Mexico through Central America and the Caribbean to north-eastern and south-eastern Brazil, according to WCVP.
