The plant: a member of the mustard family
Wilhelm Walpers published the name Lepidium meyenii in 1843. The World Checklist of Vascular Plants, compiled by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, accepts it as a species of the Brassicaceae, known in English as the mustard or cabbage family. Several names are listed there as synonyms, among them Lepidium peruvianum G.Chacón and Lepidium gelidum Wedd. Plant name databases record the English common names maca and Peruvian ginseng, and the Spanish name maca.
Native range
The recorded native range covers Peru, Bolivia, northern Chile and north-western Argentina. For this product, both the pouch (Made in Peru) and the supplier listing name Peru.
Maca in another format
If you are looking for the same species in a different presentation, the shop also lists Peruvian maca root in capsules.
