Mushinto: one format, three mushrooms

The three Mushinto tinctures share one format: a dark glass bottle with a dropper cap, packed in a printed box that gives the alcohol content of 20% and the words "Produced in the Netherlands". The ingredient line on the bottle names the species and the part used, for example Ganoderma lucidum (fruit body) liquid extract, in Dutch and English. Each tincture is available in 30 ml or 50 ml, and the box colour tells them apart: light brown for chaga, red for reishi and sage green for lion’s mane.

The five-mushroom extract and the 100 ml chaga extract

The Foodsporen extract puts lion’s mane, cordyceps, turkey tail (Trametes versicolor), reishi and chaga into one 30 ml dropper bottle. Its Dutch label states an extract from 100% fruiting bodies, extracted three times. It is the only Foodsporen product in this category; the single-mushroom Foodsporen extracts sit in the parent category.

The chaga extract is the largest bottle here, at 100 ml. It comes in a plain amber glass bottle with a screw cap and is listed without a maker’s name. Its product name uses the word pakuri; GBIF records pakurikääpä as the Finnish name of chaga, Inonotus obliquus, a species of the family Hymenochaetaceae.

Functional mushrooms: what we know

Reishi, lion’s mane, chaga, cordyceps and maitake have a long history in Asia and Eastern Europe, both in cooking and in traditional medicine. Modern research consists mainly of laboratory and animal studies.

Storage

Keep the product tightly closed, dry and away from light; for liquid extracts and tinctures, follow the instructions on the label.
