This species is known to contain DMT (N,N-dimethyltryptamine) or related tryptamines. Combined with a plant that contains MAOIs, as in ayahuasca, it can cause serious interactions with many medicines and other substances.

The genus Acacia

Acacia Mill. is a genus of the legume family (Fabaceae). The World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP), compiled by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, accepts about 1,100 species in it. WCVP records the genus as native to every Australian state and territory, to Taiwan and the Malay Peninsula, to the islands from Sumatra, Java and Borneo through the Lesser Sunda Islands and the Moluccas to the Philippines and New Guinea, to Pacific island groups from the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia to Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Hawaii, and to Madagascar, Mauritius and Réunion. In English, many species are also called wattles.

Taiwan acacia bark

Acacia confusa Merr. is a tree or shrub. WCVP gives its native range as Taiwan, the Philippines, Borneo, the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra, and its English names include Taiwan acacia and Formosa acacia. The product is whole bark from Taiwan: the pack photo shows curled, rough strips of varying size next to a kraft stand-up pouch. You choose between 50 g, 250 g and 1 kg.

Mangart phyllodes from Australia

Acacia acuminata Benth. is native to Western Australia according to WCVP. GBIF lists the English names jam wattle, raspberry-jam wattle and jamwood; Mangart is the name our supplier uses. The product consists of long, slender, yellow-green phyllodes, which the supplier files under the plant part leaf. They are sold whole in 25 g, 100 g or 500 g.
