According to Fresh Mushrooms, B+ leaves you cheerful and positive for hours, depending on the dose and your mood at the time, with a less pronounced character than the most visual strains. Its ratings give it 3.5 out of 5 overall. Community reports describe a “moderate to potent” effect, with euphoria, visuals and a certain clarity.
B+ is one of the few strains to have been lab-tested: a 2024 study (Goff et al.) measured an average of 1.13% psilocybin and psilocin across three mushrooms, although the result varies from one mushroom to another and from one supplier to another.

The “Mr. G” mystery
The story of B+ goes back to a grower known by the pseudonym “Mr. G”. He first presented it as a hybrid of Psilocybe azurescens and P. cubensis, before the community concluded that it is simply an unusual cubensis. Ian Bollinger of Hyphae Labs admits he does not know whether the hybrid story is true.
What genetics mainly confirms is that strain names are not protected. In a 2021 atlas of 81 Psilocybe genomes, “B+” samples from different vendors resembled each other less than samples of other strains did. One manufacturer’s B+ is therefore not necessarily another’s.
The kit and how to set it up

The right conditions
Between 18 and 28 °C, ideally around 23 °C, in bright, indirect light but never direct sun. Keep it away from radiators and drafts.
The steps at a glance
- Prepare a clean workspace. Wash your hands and forearms, clean the surface and keep drafts to a minimum.
- Open the kit, but do not add water. Remove the seal and the lid; rinse the lid and keep it for later.
- Slide the open container into the bag. Fold the top of the bag down and tuck it under the container, with the microperforations above the substrate.
- Wait without opening or misting. The first pins often appear within 7–14 days: a guide, not a guarantee.
- Stand the bag upright and close it with the clips as soon as the first pins appear, then loosen the top slightly once the caps have formed.
- Harvest before the spores drop, when the veil under the cap starts to tear: gently twist and pull at the base.

According to Fresh Mushrooms, a 1200 ml kit gives several harvests (flushes) totaling about 500 g of fresh mushrooms. That is the manufacturer’s figure: a living culture varies, and neither the number of flushes nor the weight is guaranteed.
Between flushes, you rehydrate the kit: fill the container with clean cold water, put the saved lid back on and leave it in a clean bag in the refrigerator (2–8 °C) for about 12 hours. Drain the water, remove the lid and start again from the bag step.

The effects in general
Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms contain psilocybin, which the body converts into psilocin. According to the Trimbos-instituut, the Dutch national institute for mental health and addiction, perception intensifies: brighter colors, rippling shapes, altered sounds, shifting emotions, laughter, relaxation and a distorted sense of time and space. At high doses, the senses can merge (synesthesia).
The body reacts too: dilated pupils, chills, sweating, a rise in heart rate and blood pressure, and often nausea or a heavy feeling at the start (the “body load”). How it unfolds depends heavily on the amount, your state of mind and your surroundings, known as set and setting. A difficult experience, with anxiety or confusion, can happen at any time.

Dosage: the reference points
Dutch harm-reduction organizations give ranges for Psilocybe cubensis. Unity (Jellinek / Arkin) says people most often take 15–30 g of fresh mushrooms, or 1.5–3 g dried, and about 7 g fresh for a first time. Dried mushrooms are roughly ten times more concentrated than fresh ones.

Why start low
Psilocybin content varies widely from one strain, one flush and even one mushroom to the next: up to fourfold between flushes of the same culture (Bigwood and Beug, 1982). Grams are only a rough guide.
Fresh Mushrooms claims its XP kits contain on average twice as much active substance as other brands. No analysis has been published, but to be safe, start at the bottom of the range and wait at least an hour before considering more.
Reducing the risks
- Not if you have a personal or family history of psychosis or bipolar disorder, or during a period of severe anxiety or depression.
- Medication: never with lithium (risk of seizures) or an MAOI antidepressant (risk of a hypertensive crisis). If you take an SSRI, tramadol or any other medication, ask a doctor or pharmacist first.
- No alcohol, cannabis or other drugs at the same time: the experience becomes heavier and less predictable.
- A calm, familiar place and a trusted person who stays sober (a tripsitter).
- A light stomach: two to three hours after a meal, nausea is less intense.
- Don’t redose too soon: the effects can take up to an hour to come on.
- Don’t drive, and plan nothing important for the rest of the day.
- Space out your sessions: tolerance builds quickly.
- Never eat mushrooms from a questionable kit: if you see green, black or brightly colored mold, consume nothing.
- If someone feels unwell or the anxiety will not pass, call emergency services (112 in the EU) and say what was taken.
