According to the supplier, apuxuri is the Kuntanawa name for a forest herb that is called pixuri or puxuri in other regions and is sometimes sold as Brazilian nutmeg. The supplier places it in the genus Licaria, which GBIF lists in the laurel family, Lauraceae. Pixuri seeds are known for a sweet, spicy fragrance, but the supplier states that rapé makers usually work with the leaves. It adds that the herb gives Força a fresh aroma without dominating the blend.
The supplier points out that neighbouring Amazonian peoples often use different names for the same plant or for closely related species, and that the plants themselves vary with soil and climate.
