Cacau: Huni Kuin rapé with cacao-tree ash
Cacau is a rapé (also written rapeh or hapé) sold under the name of the Huni Kuin, a people of the Brazilian state of Acre who are also known as Kaxinawá. According to the supplier, it is made with the ash of a native Amazonian cacao tree, cacau in Portuguese, on a base of two tobaccos. The cacao ash gives the powder a reddish colour that sets it apart from most blends. Mycotrop offers it in 10 g and 50 g, with the same blend in both sizes.

The cacao tree behind the ash
The supplier explains that the Huni Kuin, like some other peoples, burn the bark and wood of a particular cacao variety for this ash. The trees are small, with slender trunks, and grow wild along the rivers in the forest. As botanical name the supplier gives Theobroma cacao. GBIF lists Theobroma cacao as an accepted species of the mallow family (Malvaceae), and the World Checklist of Vascular Plants records it as native from Costa Rica to northern South America, including northern Brazil.
Two tobaccos: Sabiá and moi
The tobacco base combines two types. Sabiá forms the foundation of the blend; moi is, in the supplier's words, a native strain of Nicotiana rustica. Moi tobacco is also used in Tsunu Native, and Sabiá in the Huni Kuin blend Canela de Velho. More blends that carry the people's name are listed under Huni Kuin.
