Texture and look
The second photo shows the shreds heaped in a clay bowl: thin, light-brown strands mixed with small chips of wood and bark, some with pale, splintery ends. Unlike the whole vine sections of the same species, this form contains no intact pieces; the vine has been broken down into irregular strands.
Botanical identity
Kew’s World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) lists Tynanthus panurensis (Bureau) Sandwith as an accepted species of the bignonia family, Bignoniaceae, with Schizopsis panurensis Bureau as its basionym. The recorded native range is limited to five areas: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and the north of Brazil. Flora data from Brazil describe it as a climbing liana of rainforest.
