Two species from two families
The two leaves come from unrelated plant families. Ilex guayusa Loes., published in 1901, is an accepted species of the holly family with a native range in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. Aloysia citrodora Paláu, published in 1784, is an accepted species of the verbena family. The World Checklist of Vascular Plants of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, records it as native to north-western Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay and as introduced in many other countries, Peru, Spain and France among them.
Guayusa on its own
For guayusa leaves without a second plant, the shop lists whole leaves with Ecuador as the country and finely cut Ecuadorian leaves. This blend is the only listing that pairs guayusa with cedrón, and it comes in one size of 75 g.
