Cielo Vine: shredded caapi in two pack sizes

Cielo Vine is the vine of the climbing plant Banisteriopsis caapi, cut into shreds. The kraft pouch carries a Maya Ethnobotanicals label that reads Cielo Vine, Banisteriopsis caapi and Shredded, with a round seal stating Made in Peru. Mycotrop stocks it in 100 g and 250 g; there is no 1 kg size of this product. Both sizes hold the same material, so you only choose the quantity.

What the label says, and what it leaves out

The label gives the species, the cut and the country, and nothing more. It names no region of Peru, no harvest date and no people or community, and the net-weight field on the photographed pouch is empty. This page therefore describes the vine only by what is printed and photographed. The cover photo shows the pouch next to a clay bowl of the shreds, the second photo shows the bowl on its own, and the third is a close-up of the cut: pale to mid-brown woody slivers and fibres, with a few darker pieces of bark.

Cielo and the other caapi selections

Cielo is a trade name, not a botanical variety. The World Checklist of Vascular Plants, maintained at Kew, accepts Banisteriopsis caapi in the Malpighiaceae and lists no varieties under it. Plants of the World Online describes the species as a climber of the wet tropics, and Peru lies within its recorded native range. Several products in the shop carry the Cielo name: Napo Cielo is a finer cut that also comes in 1 kg, Cielo Caapi is another shredded vine from Peru in 100 g, 250 g and 1 kg, and the Cielo caapi leaves are whole dried leaves of the same species.

Packaging and delivery

Like everything in the shop, Cielo Vine is sold strictly as a collectible or souvenir item. Orders are packed on business days in neutral outer packaging with no description of the contents, and a tracking link follows by email after dispatch whenever one is available. Delivery estimates and the 14-day withdrawal right, including its statutory exceptions, are set out on Delivery, tracking and returns.
