Traditional use
Trichilia catigua (Meliaceae, the mahogany family) is the tree most often sold in Brazil under the name “catuaba”, a name that covers more than twenty different Brazilian species. A 2017 review (Longhini et al.) reports that the bark is used as a tonic in Brazilian folk medicine; the published work consists mostly of laboratory and animal studies.
The bark is rich in tannins and polyphenols: procyanidins, cinchonains (flavolignans) and catiguanins.

Jars, pouch and powder
The photos show two glass jars with black screw caps and green Maya Herbs labels reading Catuaba, Trichilia catigua and Dry Extract; the larger jar is also marked 10 g. A kraft pouch with the same label design, a Dry Extract band and a Made in Brazil seal appears in the other pictures, next to a terracotta bowl of fine orange-brown powder. On the jars the Latin name is spelled correctly, while the pouch label prints “Trichila”.
Botanical background
Trichilia catigua is a tree of the mahogany family, Meliaceae, accepted under this name by GBIF and the World Checklist of Vascular Plants. Adrien de Jussieu published it in 1829. Its native range, as recorded in the checklist, reaches from Bolivia and Paraguay across Brazil to north-eastern Argentina.
