Piri Piri, a Nukini rapé with Justicia pectoralis
This rapé (also written rapeh or hapé) carries the name of the Nukini, an Indigenous people of the state of Acre in western Brazil. The supplier makes it together with the Nukini community of Recanto Verde and names it after its herb, Piri Piri, which it identifies as Justicia pectoralis. It describes the blend as a tobacco product but does not name the tobacco. Mycotrop offers it in 10 g and 50 g, with the same blend in both tins.

One name, several plants
The supplier points out that in Peru the name Piri Piri is used for several different plants. The one in this blend is Justicia pectoralis, which most people in Brazil call anador. It is a small, low-growing herb with a sweet scent that the supplier compares to vanilla. Because each plant is so small, a large amount has to be gathered for a little usable material, so the supplier regards the herb as a scarce ingredient.
Botanical identity
The World Checklist of Vascular Plants, as published on GBIF, lists Justicia pectoralis Jacq. as a synonym. The accepted name is Dianthera pectoralis (Jacq.) J.F.Gmel., in the acanthus family (Acanthaceae). The species is native from Mexico and Central America through northern South America and Brazil (north, north-east and west-central) to Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina. In Florida and on several Caribbean islands it is recorded as introduced.
Piri Piri and other Recanto Verde blends
According to the supplier, both the Nukini and the Kuntanawa of Acre include Piri Piri in their rapé. Recanto Verde is also where Onça, the blend of the community leader Xiti Nukini, and Rawni are made. Every blend of this people is listed in the Nukini category.
