This rapé (also written rapeh or hapé) is named after the Nukini, an Indigenous people of the state of Acre in western Brazil. The supplier presents it as a new blend made with its Nukini partners and declares two ingredients: eucalyptus and rope tobacco from Nicotiana rustica. Rope tobacco
The tobacco is Nicotiana rustica, a species in the nightshade family (Solanaceae), prepared as rope tobacco. According to the supplier, it is fermented, dried and rolled into heavy, rope-like cylinders, which are then left to mature before they are used in the blend.
Eucalyptus, a plant from elsewhere
Eucalyptus is a genus in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae). The supplier notes that it is not native to the region where the Nukini live, yet it has been widely taken up in Brazil. The species used here is not named. The Caboclo blend Eucalipto also lists eucalyptus, alongside Sabiá tobacco, tsunu ash and the herb alfavaca da mata.
