Caboclo Paricá: Nicotiana rustica and Paricá bark ash
Paricá is a Caboclo rapé (also written rapeh or hapé) from Brazil, named after the ash it contains. Its supplier lists two components: tobacco of the species Nicotiana rustica, and ash from the bark of a tree known locally as Paricá. The tin label reads "Caboclo – Paricá" and "Native Brazilian Snuff". Mycotrop stocks the blend in 10 g and 50 g; both sizes hold the same blend.

How the Paricá ash is made
According to the supplier, the ash comes from the bark of the Paricá tree, which is burned slowly until only a fine ash remains. In some areas the same ash goes by the name Xinshá. The supplier does not name the tree species, so this page gives no botanical name for it. The tobacco is better documented: Nicotiana rustica is a species of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), known in English as Aztec tobacco. The product photo shows a light brown powder in an open tin.
A maker from the forest
The supplier describes the maker as a non-Indigenous rapé maker who was raised deep in the forest. As a young man he tapped rubber trees, collecting the latex before sunrise and processing it into solid rubber. Later he worked for the government as a specialist, identifying plants and mapping terrain in the rainforest. His name is not published. According to the supplier, the same maker also prepares Caboclo Flor de Jaci. A darker Paricá version with Arapiraca tobacco is sold as Caboclo Paricá Xtra.
