Name and native range

The label spells the genus “Chinchona”; the accepted spelling is Cinchona. Linnaeus published Cinchona officinalis in Species Plantarum in 1753, and GBIF and the Kew checklist (WCVP) accept the name. The Kew checklist gives Ecuador as the only native country and lists the species as introduced in Colombia, Peru, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Guinea and St Helena. Brazil, the origin printed on the pouch, does not appear in either list. GBIF records Spanish names such as cascarilla and árbol de quina, and the English name Loja bark.
