Name and range of the tree
The pouch prints the name as “Emburana cearensis”. Botanical databases do not list that name: GBIF and the Kew checklist (WCVP) accept Amburana cearensis. Emburana is the supplier’s market name; it is not among the common names that GBIF records for the species. The Kew checklist records the tree as native to Bolivia, Paraguay, north-western Argentina and northern, north-eastern, south-eastern and west-central Brazil. In Brazil its recorded Portuguese names include cumaru-de-cheiro and cerejeira.
How the seeds look
The photos show flat, oval seeds mottled from beige to dark purple, mixed with a few pale, papery fragments. In the photos, the seeds differ slightly in size and colour. The shop also lists whole emburana bark from Brazil from the same species.
