Kew’s World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) accepts Bidens pilosa L., described by Linnaeus in Species Plantarum in 1753. The checklist lists a long series of synonyms and a native range across the Americas, including southern and south-eastern Brazil, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. In more than 120 other regions, among them northern, north-eastern and west-central Brazil, the plant is recorded as introduced. GBIF lists many English names, such as black-jack, Spanish needles and beggar-ticks; in French it is bident poilu, in German Behaarter Zweizahn.
Colour and texture
Both photos show a fine, soft-looking powder in a pale sage green, spread in a terracotta dish; the first also shows the pouch. It is lighter and greyer than the olive-green graviola leaf powder, another leaf powder from the same supplier.
