Kew’s World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) accepts Annona muricata L., named by Linnaeus in Species Plantarum in 1753. Its recorded native range covers south-eastern Mexico, Central America and north-western South America, from Colombia and Venezuela to Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. The tree is listed as introduced in about sixty other regions, among them north-eastern and south-eastern Brazil. GBIF gives soursop and guanabana as English names, corossol in French and Stachelannone in German.
