Commiphora myrrha in botanical references
GBIF and the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) accept Commiphora myrrha (T.Nees) Engl. as a species of the Burseraceae, the family that also includes frankincense (Boswellia) and copal trees. WCVP lists it in Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yemen. Kenya, the country on this label, is part of that range.
Myrrh in two forms
The range has a second myrrh with the same label species: the granulated myrrh from Ethiopia, sold as small, even granules. The Kenyan lot is cut into larger, irregular pieces and starts at 100 g. The opopanax from Somalia, sometimes called sweet myrrh, carries a different botanical name on its label.
