Grey copal (copal blanco) from Indonesia
Grey copal and copal blanco are the names under which this natural incense resin is sold. It is formed from tree sap; the supplier gives Indonesia as the country of origin and Dacryodes peruviana as the botanical name. The photos show small, angular pieces in pale yellow, amber and grey-brown tones. You can choose 50 g, 250 g or 1 kg. Mycotrop sells it strictly as a collectible or souvenir item.

About the botanical name
The pack label and the supplier data spell the name “Dacryoides peruviana”. GBIF and the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) use the spelling Dacryodes peruviana (Loes.) H.J.Lam and accept it as a species of the Burseraceae. The same family includes the genera Protium and Bursera, whose names appear on other copals in our range.
Grey copal from two origins
The range has a second grey copal: the grey copal from Peru carries the same botanical name on its label but comes from a different country. For a copal labelled with another species, see the black copal from Mexico (Protium paniculatum).
Burning safely
Burn incense, resins, smudge sticks and palo santo in a well-ventilated room, on a heat-resistant holder (a dish, sand, or charcoal for resins), away from curtains and anything flammable. Always put out the embers before you leave the room.
Precautions
- Never leave anything burning unattended, and keep children and pets at a distance.
- Smoke can irritate the airways: air the room, and avoid use if you have asthma or a respiratory illness.
- Essential oils and floral waters: never swallow them and keep them away from the eyes; dilute oils before any contact with the skin, and seek advice during pregnancy.
- Plant ash is not meant to be inhaled: handle it with care.
Storage
Keep incense, resins and wood dry, in a closed container, away from light and heat, so that they keep their fragrance. Close oils and floral waters tightly after use.
