Murici, a standard blend of the Huni Kuin
Murici is a rapé (also written rapeh or hapé) sold under the name of the Huni Kuin, also known as Kaxinawá. The supplier calls it a classic of Huni Kuin tradition: a simple recipe that holds the same place in their range as the Tsunu blend does among the Yawanawa, rather than a mix of many ingredients. The blend takes its name from the murici tree. Mycotrop offers it in 10 g and 50 g tins.

The murici tree
Murici is the Portuguese name of Byrsonima crassifolia, a species of the Malpighiaceae family known in English as nance or golden spoon. The World Checklist of Vascular Plants gives its range from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean to Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil. The supplier describes it as a common, shrubby tree of the forest, up to about ten metres tall, whose fruit is sought by forest animals.
The Huni Kuin and their blends
The Huni Kuin speak a language of the Pano family and live on both sides of the Brazil–Peru border, in Brazil mainly in Acre, according to the Instituto Socioambiental. Other blends sold under their name include Huni Kuin Rapé – Tradition and Canela de Velho; the full list is in the Huni Kuin category.
