A bamboo kuripe wrapped in sword-shaped leaves
The Garden is one of the decorated bamboo kuripes in the rapé accessories at Mycotrop. Two bamboo tubes meet in a V; in the product photo one is pale and the other a warmer honey tone. Several long, pointed leaves modelled in green sit around the joint, each crossed by lighter wavy bands, with a little orange showing at their base. The supplier describes the piece as handcrafted from bamboo and the leaves as echoing the long, sword-like leaves of the Saint George’s sword plant (espada de São Jorge). There is one version, without a size or colour choice.

The plant behind the motif
Espada-de-são-jorge is a Brazilian Portuguese common name of Dracaena trifasciata, a species of the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The species was long filed as Sansevieria trifasciata, a name that GBIF now lists as a synonym; the Portuguese common name comes from the official Flora e Funga do Brasil list. On this kuripe the plant is a motif only. The supplier does not say what the modelled leaves are made of, so we do not name a material for them.
Other decorated bamboo kuripes
The Bamboo Kuripe – Jagube also has a body of modelled leaves, with a small disc of caapi vine set in the centre. The Bamboo Kuripe – Senna has a grey and black resin binding with a cowrie shell instead, and the plain bamboo kuripe has no decoration at all. You will find all of them in rapé accessories.
