Traditional use and composition
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root of the high Andes whose cultivation is documented for more than 2,000 years in Peru (Ulloa Del Carpio et al. 2024). Guarana (Paullinia cupana) is grown and processed in traditional ways by the Sateré-Mawé of the central Amazon; its seeds are rich in caffeine (Henman 1982). The leaves of Ginkgo biloba contain terpene lactones, including ginkgolides, and flavone glycosides (Mai et al. 2025).
Suma is often linked to Pfaffia paniculata, nicknamed “Brazilian ginseng”, which contains saponins (pfaffosides) and β-ecdysterone (Miranda et al. 2024). Several species are sold as catuaba, which causes confusion (Teixeira et al. 2024). The supplier specifies neither of these two species nor the proportions.

Who is who among the five plants
Ginkgo biloba L. is the only ingredient the supplier gives with a Latin name. It is the maidenhair tree, the single living species of the family Ginkgoaceae. Guarana is the common name of Paullinia cupana Kunth, a member of the family Sapindaceae. Behind the name maca stands Lepidium meyenii Walp., which belongs to the mustard family, Brassicaceae; the Kew checklist (WCVP) gives its native range as Bolivia, Peru, northern Chile and north-western Argentina. For suma and catuaba the supplier gives no Latin names, so this page does not assign any. Proportions are not stated.
