The Crystal Double Barrel – XL is a decorated bamboo kuripe, one of the rapé accessories sold by Mycotrop. The supplier describes it as a double barrel kuripe of bamboo and resin, handcrafted by artisans of the Tete Pawã studio in the upper Juruá region of Marechal Thaumaturgo, in the Brazilian state of Acre, and set with a crystal. The modelled body, from tubes to crystal
In the photo, the body is covered with grey relief: curled spirals and leaves surround the tubes, with a dark blue stone set among them. Below this, a narrower neck is lined with close black and grey ribs. Near the tip, more leaves and spirals frame a round orange inset with a flower-like pattern, and the clear crystal point sits at the very end. The supplier says each piece is made by hand, so the relief, the stones and the crystal vary from one kuripe to the next.

Tepi and kuripe
A tepi is a long pipe: one person blows the rapé into another person’s nostril. A kuripe is a V-shaped applicator: one end goes to the mouth, the other to the nostril, and you blow yourself. Depending on the people, these pipes are made of bamboo, hollow bone or rolled leaves; wood, ceramic and stone are also common today (Faria 2016).
