Liquid cordyceps extract from Foodsporen

This Foodsporen bottle holds 30 ml of a liquid cordyceps extract. According to the label, the extract is made from the fruiting bodies of the fungus at a ratio of 8:1, extracted three times and bottled with 20% vol alcohol. Cordyceps in botanical references

GBIF places the genus Cordyceps Fr. in the family Cordycipitaceae, order Hypocreales, within the sac fungi (Ascomycota). Cordyceps is a genus name, and the label does not say which species is used, so no species is given on this page.

Bottle, box and label

The product photos show a dark dropper bottle with a black pipette cap and a green label below an orange band with a cordyceps illustration. The label carries the foodsporen wordmark, the name Cordyceps, four short lines in Dutch about the extract and the line Netto inhoud 30 ml | Alc. 20% Vol. The box repeats the design in orange, green and dark green. If you prefer capsules, the Foodsporen cordyceps capsules come in a jar of 60 with the same 8:1 ratio on the label. Other liquid extracts from this maker are the chaga extract and the lion’s mane extract, both in 30 ml bottles.

Functional mushrooms: what we know

Reishi, lion’s mane, chaga, cordyceps and maitake have a long history in Asia and Eastern Europe, both in cooking and in traditional medicine. Modern research consists mainly of laboratory and animal studies: no health claims are authorised in the European Union for these mushrooms, and we do not make any.

Precautions

  • Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice if you take any medication, especially an anticoagulant or a diabetes medicine, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Chaga is rich in oxalates: kidney damage has been reported after heavy, prolonged consumption.
  • Stick to the daily dose stated on the label, and keep out of the reach of children.
  • A food supplement is not a substitute for a varied diet.

Storage

Keep the product tightly closed, dry and away from light; for liquid extracts and tinctures, follow the instructions on the label.
