Reishi is the name on the box; the ingredient line on the bottle names Ganoderma lucidum and specifies a liquid extract of the fruit body with 20% alcohol. Reishi, lacquered bracket and Ganoderma lucidum
GBIF lists Ganoderma lucidum (Curtis) P.Karst. as an accepted species and, in its backbone taxonomy, places it in the family Polyporaceae, order Polyporales. The English name recorded in the UK Species Inventory and other checklists is lacquered bracket. French lists use ganoderme luisant, and the DGfM taxon list for Germany gives Glänzender Lackporling. Reishi is the trade name printed on the Mushinto box.
Red boxes, two sizes and other reishi products
On both bottle sizes, the large M and the Mushinto name are printed in orange on dark glass, and the boxes are red and white. Mushinto’s other tinctures, lion’s mane and chaga, come in the same 30 ml and 50 ml bottles. If you are comparing makers, the Foodsporen reishi extract is available in a 30 ml bottle.
Functional mushrooms: what we know
Reishi, lion’s mane, chaga, cordyceps and maitake have a long history in Asia and Eastern Europe, both in cooking and in traditional medicine. Modern research consists mainly of laboratory and animal studies: no health claims are authorised in the European Union for these mushrooms, and we do not make any.
