This large bundle is made of the scale-leaved foliage of incense cedar, cut into twigs of similar length and tied into a long roll. The supplier gives Libocedrus decurrens as the botanical name, leaf as the plant part, bundle as the form and the United States as the country. No length or weight is published for the large size. The bundle in the photos
In the side view the bundle is long and narrow, olive green to ochre, and wrapped with white thread in many close, crossing turns from end to end. The second photo shows one end close up: many short, cut twig ends with small scale leaves, with a few thicker brown stems among them.
From Libocedrus to Calocedrus
Torrey described the tree in 1853 as Libocedrus decurrens. In 1956 Florin moved it to the genus Calocedrus, and the World Checklist of Vascular Plants, published through GBIF, now lists Calocedrus decurrens as the accepted name and Libocedrus decurrens as a synonym. The family is Cupressaceae. The native range runs from western Oregon through California to northern Baja California; the species has also been introduced in Great Britain, Italy and Spain.
