Traditional use and composition
Cecropia palmata, embauba, belongs to a genus of pioneer trees of Neotropical forests, from southern Mexico to northern Argentina, which live in association with ants. Species of the genus have long featured in the traditional medicine of Central and South America.
Fewer than ten of the 66 accepted species have been studied pharmacologically (Al Shammari 2024). For C. palmata, this review cites only a few compounds: escoparone, ursolic and pomolic acids, α- and β-amyrin, stigmasterol derivatives. Little data is published on this species.

Botanical identity
Carl Ludwig Willdenow published Cecropia palmata in 1806, in the fourth edition of Species Plantarum. GBIF and the World Checklist of Vascular Plants accept it as a species of the Urticaceae; older names such as Ambaiba palmata count as synonyms. The checklist records a native range across Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Suriname, French Guiana and northern, north-eastern and central-western Brazil. Common names include trumpet tree in English, parasolier in French and embaúba-vermelha in Portuguese.
