Within the dogbane family, Apocynaceae, Kew’s World Checklist of Vascular Plants keeps Tabernanthe iboga under the name Baillon gave it in 1888. Two names by Stapf, Tabernanthe bocca and Tabernanthe mannii, and one by Pichon, Tabernanthe pubescens, are filed there as synonyms.
