Panaeolus cyanescens · Mycotek · 1200 ml
The Mycotek BSRS kit is a 1200 ml Panaeolus cyanescens grow kit, sold under the name “Big Spored Rare Strain” and delivered fully colonized with its casing layer.
BSRS is a trade name, not a scientific designation. The “big spored” part refers to a real trait of the species: Panaeolus cyanescens has exceptionally large spores for a Panaeolus. Like the other two Pan Cyan kits, this is an advanced grow that needs steady warmth, humidity and fresh air.
No analysis specific to BSRS has been published, so no figure is given for the strain itself. What is documented is the species: Panaeolus cyanescens is among the most concentrated psilocybin mushrooms studied, with up to about 3% total psilocin measured in dried samples in 2010.
BSRS should therefore be treated like the other Pan Cyan strains: small amounts, a wait before taking more, and never the usual doses of a cubensis.
BSRS is short for “Big Spored Rare Strain”, the name under which this strain is sold. It is not an established mycological designation: it appears neither in the scientific literature nor in encyclopedic sources, and its origin is undocumented.
The “big spored” part, on the other hand, rests on a real trait: Panaeolus cyanescens has smooth, elliptical spores measuring 12–15 × 7–11 µm, with a germ pore, borne in fours on each basidium. This trait applies to the whole species, not to BSRS in particular.
1200 ml of fully colonized dung-based substrate, a sterile casing layer (the top layer of soil), a humidity grow bag, a sealing clip and printed care instructions.
Panaeolus cyanescens needs more warmth, more humidity and more fresh air than a cubensis, and it is less forgiving of mistakes. For a first grow, a Fresh Mushrooms kit is simpler.
This is a living culture, shipped cool. Unopened, the kit keeps for several months in the refrigerator at 2–4 °C, so you can start it whenever you are ready.
Any doubts before you start?Your kit comes with printed care instructions. Send a photo of your kit and your order number to our support team: we will check the stage and its visible condition with you.
Contact supportWith regular care, our Pan Cyan kits give 2 to 4 flushes, for about 30–100 g of fresh mushrooms in total, and more under ideal conditions. The mushrooms are small and slender, so the weight stays modest, but gram for gram the species is far more concentrated than a cubensis.
| Stage | When | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Casing and colonization | First few days | Warm, no handling |
| First pins | 5–17 days after setup | Steady warmth, fresh air twice a day |
| First harvest | 10–24 days after setup | Caps open, before the spores drop |
| Further flushes | After rehydration | 2–4 flushes in total |
Panaeolus cyanescens contains psilocybin and a large share of psilocin. In 2010, a German forensic analysis found up to about 3% total psilocin in dried samples: among the highest values ever published for a mushroom (Laussmann and Meier-Giebing). Levels nevertheless vary widely with origin, growing conditions and drying.
The effects resemble those of other psilocybin mushrooms: heightened perception, colors and shapes that move, shifting emotions and introspection, often with nausea at the start. In the self-experiment published by chemist Tjakko Stijve in 1992, the effects came on in under 20 minutes and the experience was judged stronger and shorter than with Psilocybe semilanceata.
| Phase | Typical timing |
|---|---|
| Onset | Often fast: about 20 minutes, sometimes less |
| Peak | About 1–2 hours after taking |
| Duration | 3–6 hours, depending on the source and the amount |
| Afterward | Possible tiredness; no driving for the rest of the day |
No public-health body gives a range specific to Panaeolus cyanescens. The figures below are rough orders of magnitude drawn from user reports, to be treated as an upper limit: 1 g dried is generally taken as equivalent to about 2 g of dried cubensis. For fresh mushrooms, multiply by roughly ten.
| Level | Dried | Fresh (≈ ×10) | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting point | 0.2–0.5 g | 2–5 g | Always the place to start with this species |
| Medium | 0.5–1.5 g | 5–15 g | After a first experience that went well |
| Strong | 1.5–2.5 g | 15–25 g | Very experienced users only: much higher risks |
Potency varies considerably from one batch to the next, and the onset is fast: it is easy to take too much before you feel the first effects. Start with the smallest amount and wait at least an hour and a half before considering more.
If you are used to cubensis, do not take your usual amounts: cut them at least in half.

Orders are prepared on business days and shipped in plain outer packaging that does not describe the contents. Once your order has shipped, the tracking link is emailed to you when available. Blue or blue-gray marks on the substrate after transport are normal bruising; green or fluffy patches are not, so send us a photo. “Big Spored Rare Strain”, the trade name of this Panaeolus cyanescens strain. The “big spored” part reflects a real trait of the species: spores of 12–15 × 7–11 µm, large for a Panaeolus.
No. All three are Panaeolus cyanescens, but they are different strains: Hawaii is the classic benchmark, MIB a modern cultivar with red spores, and BSRS a strain sold under its own name.
No. All Panaeolus cyanescens kits are advanced. Start with a Fresh Mushrooms kit and come back to Pan Cyan once you have mastered temperature, humidity and fresh air.
Blue or blue-gray marks are bruising, often caused by cold or handling: that is normal. Green, fluffy or spreading patches are not, so contact us with a photo.
Because, gram for gram, Panaeolus cyanescens is generally much more concentrated: analyses have measured up to about 3% total psilocin in dried material. The usual rule of thumb puts 1 g dried at about 2 g of dried cubensis, and the effects come on faster.
