The Marshmallow (or Marsh Mallow) is indigenous to Africa. All parts of the plant have medicinal properties. The genus name Althea is from the Greek word althe and means ‘to heal’. It was also the main ingredient for the candy going by the same name.
Usage
Since the Middle Ages the Marshmallow root has been used as a herbal remedy for cough, sore throat and other respiratory problems such as bronchitis.
To use as a tea, use 2 - 5 teaspoons per of dried herb per tea cup. Add sugar to taste. Marshmallow herb can also be used in a vaporizer.
