Two tobaccos: moi and corda

The supplier names two types of Nicotiana rustica, a tobacco species of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Moi is grown by families in the forest region and cured by traditional methods; the supplier compares its appearance to Peruvian mapacho. Corda, Portuguese for “rope”, is also called string tobacco because it is rolled into dense ropes. It comes from Arapiraca, a region in north-eastern Brazil with a long history of growing rustica tobacco.

Eucalyptus in a Brazilian rapé

The third component is eucalyptus. The supplier does not name the species and notes that eucalyptus is not native to Brazil but has entered rapé blends in recent years. The genus Eucalyptus belongs to the myrtle family (Myrtaceae); the World Checklist of Vascular Plants gives its native range as Australia, New Guinea and neighbouring islands of Indonesia and the Philippines. The Caboclo range includes another blend with eucalyptus, Caboclo Eucalipto.

Other Katukina blends

The Katukina category groups the blends from this people. Lady of the Night uses the same two tobaccos, moi and corda, together with murici bark ash and a night-flowering cactus.
