Mycotrop customer guide
The correct setup for your 100% Mycelium XP kit
A product-specific guide for the 1200 ml Fresh Mushrooms kits sold by Mycotrop. The same setup applies to McKennaii, Mexican and Golden Teacher in this range.

Before you start
These kits arrive fully colonized. You do not need spores, an injection step or an initial soak.
Check the rules at your delivery address before opening the product. This guide covers product handling only; it is not medical advice. Keep the kit away from children and pets.
Fresh Mushrooms grow kit instructions
Read the complete sequence once before opening the container. Clean handling and steady conditions matter more than constant intervention.
Prepare a clean workspace
Wash and dry your hands and forearms. Clean the work surface and reduce drafts before handling the container or bag.
Open the kit — do not add water
Break the seal and remove the lid. Rinse and dry the lid, then keep it in the carton for later. Do not pour water into the container for the first cycle.
Place the kit in the bag
Put the open container inside the supplied grow bag. Fold the upper part of the bag down around the container and tuck the fold underneath it, keeping the microperforations above the substrate.
Wait in bright, indirect light
Keep the kit out of direct sunlight at 18–28 °C; about 23 °C is the target. Do not open or mist the bag while waiting for pins. Timing varies, so 7–14 days is a guide rather than a guarantee.
Raise the bag when pins appear
As soon as the first small mushrooms are visible, stand the bag upright. Fold the open top over and secure it with both clips. Do not spray the substrate or the mushrooms.
Allow moisture to escape as caps form
When clear caps have formed, loosen the top of the bag slightly so excess moisture can escape. Keep the kit away from direct sun and strong heat.
Harvest before spores drop
Work with clean hands. Harvest the cluster as the veils begin to separate and before the caps release dark spores. Gently twist and pull at the base; remove remaining small mushrooms before the next cycle.
Rehydrate only after harvest
For the next cycle, fill the container with clean cold water, replace the saved lid and keep the closed kit in a clean bag in the refrigerator at 2–8 °C for about 12 hours. Drain all excess water, remove the lid and restart from the bag-placement step.
Troubleshooting without guesswork
Avoid changing several conditions at once. Use these checks first, then contact Mycotrop with clear photos if the problem continues.
| What you see | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No pins yet | Temperature, indirect light and elapsed time | Aim for about 23 °C, avoid direct sun and allow more time. Do not add water or start misting during the initial wait. |
| Little or no condensation | Bag closure and nearby heat sources | Keep the bag folded as described and away from radiators or direct heat. Do not improvise by spraying the substrate. |
| Unusual green, black or strongly coloured growth | Possible contamination | Keep the bag closed, move it away from other kits and contact support with your order number and photos. Do not consume anything from a suspected contaminated kit. |
| Very wet bag or pooling water | Direct sun, overheating or water added too early | Move the kit to stable indirect light and contact support before making another change. |
Fresh Mushrooms grow kit questions
Direct answers to the questions that most often lead to the wrong setup.
Should I soak the kit before the first cycle?
No. This 100% Mycelium XP kit is ready for its first cycle without soaking. Rehydration belongs after a completed harvest.
Should I mist the bag or substrate?
Do not mist before the first pins and do not spray the substrate or mushrooms. Follow the bag-position steps instead.
When should I open the bag?
Keep it closed while waiting for pins. Stand and clip the bag when pins appear; loosen the top slightly only once clear caps have formed.
Do McKennaii, Mexican and Golden Teacher use the same guide?
Yes, this setup is for the three 1200 ml Fresh Mushrooms 100% Mycelium XP kits sold on this category page.
How many harvest cycles will I get?
Fresh Mushrooms describes the range as suitable for multiple cycles, but biology and conditions vary. A number of harvests or a yield cannot be guaranteed.
What should I do if contamination is suspected?
Keep the bag closed, isolate it and contact Mycotrop with your order number and clear photos. Do not smell closely or consume growth from a suspect kit.
