Shoyeido Incense Road: three Japanese incense sticks, Nanshu, Nanto and Nanzan
Incense Road is a stick incense series from the Japanese house Shoyeido, offered here in three varieties to choose in the selector: Nanshu (Southern State), Nanto (Southern Capital) and Nanzan (Southern Mountain). The photos show the pink box of the Nanzan variety, marked “INCENSE ROAD” and “南山”, with brown sticks, one of them standing in a small round holder. The three varieties
The fragrance descriptions are Shoyeido’s own for its Incense Road series: they are the brand’s terms, not a measurement.

The Incense Road
According to Shoyeido, the series recalls the trade route that linked Asia and the Mediterranean and along which frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood and rare spices travelled. In the selector, the three Japanese names are followed by an English translation: Southern State, Southern Capital and Southern Mountain.
What the photos show
The photos show only the Nanzan box: a pink box illustrated with a rock face, with “INCENSE ROAD”, the characters “南山” and the mark “20本入” (20 sticks). Brown sticks lie in front of the box and one stands in a small round grey holder; the listing does not say whether the holder is included. Shoyeido USA likewise describes its Incense Road assortment as 20 sticks of each of the three fragrances (Frankincense, Sandalwood, Chai). The supplier does not publish the contents of the Nanshu and Nanto boxes.
Shoyeido and the shop’s other incense

Burning safely
Burn incense, resins, smudge sticks and palo santo in a well-ventilated room, on a heat-resistant holder (a dish, sand, or charcoal for resins), away from curtains and anything flammable. Always put out the embers before you leave the room.

Keep incense, resins and wood dry, in a closed container, away from light and heat, so that they keep their fragrance. Close oils and floral waters tightly after use.
