Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) 1g
Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) is used as a euphoriant by the Khoikhoi of South Africa. It is sniffed, chewed or used as a tea. It relieves anxious feelings and has mood-enhancing and empathogenic effects.
In higher dosages it induces a state of euphoria and a sense of connection with one’s environment. After ingestion it first has a stimulating effect followed by a state of relaxation. Some users have noted an enhanced tactile response and increased libido. *
Usage
Kanna can be used as a snuff, in which case 20 mg is sufficient to produce a substantial effect. You can also chew it with a piece of gum. In that case it's advisable to take a larger amount, for example 100 mg to one gram. You can also make tea of it, or extract the active compound with alcohol.
Ingredients
The active constituents of Sceletium tortuosum are mesembrine, mesembrenone, mesembrenol and tortuosamine. Mesembrine, the major alkaloid present, is a Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI).
Warning
Sceletium Tortuosum should not be combined with other SSRI's (Seroxat, Prozac) or Mono Oxidase Inhibitors (MAO-I), such as Syrian Rue (Peganum harmala), Banisteriopsis Caapi and certain anti-depressants.
