The captivating world of wood-loving mushrooms brought forth Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata. First unveiled by the renowned mycologists Richard Gaines and Gaston Guzman in 2007, these mushrooms are native to wood chips discovered along a trail in Evansburg State Park, Pennsylvania. A curious anecdote even holds that Richard Gaines had a run-in with the law while possessing these very mushrooms at Burning Man, prior to their formal scientific naming.

The Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata owes its westward journey to Richard Gaines. He's rumored to have transported and introduced them to wood chip landscapes on the west coast, where they naturally thrived and spread. Now, these intriguing mushrooms can be found across the nation.

Named after their balloon-like cystidia (cells present on various parts of the mushroom), these mushrooms once faced confusion with Psilocybe caerulipes, both colloquially known as "blue-foot mushrooms." After a scientific distinction was made in 2007, Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata earned the less glamorous but practical nicknames "P. ovoid" or "ovoids."

The Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata is visually striking, with dome-shaped caps, a characteristic bump, and color variations ranging from pale yellow to orange-brown when fresh. Some may even take on a gorgeous blueish-green hue, presumably due to psilocybin oxidation, and dry out to a silvery grey.

Its hollow stems exhibit a unique club-like base and may be adorned with patches of yellow, brown, or blue. The mysterious veil often leaves an elusive ring around the stem, adding to the mushroom's charm. Some describe its aroma as reminiscent of flour, sometimes with a spicy twist.

The gills of Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata are adnate, meeting the stem at right angles, and their color ranges from whitish-brown to purplish-black with age. The spores' purple-black color adds another dimension to the mushroom's identification, and legal purchase options for microscope study are available.

Despite being close to Psilocybe cubensis in potency, according to a study by John Allen and colleagues, some anecdotal accounts claim Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata is stronger. With the following alkaloid contents:

Psilocybin average: 0.45% dry weight

Psilocin average: 0.13% dry weight

Baeocystin average: 0.2% dry weight

This analysis may only represent a snapshot of the true variation in potency.

Embarking on a psilocybin mushroom journey with Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata requires careful consideration of dosage, as potency may vary. Like other wood-loving Psilocybe species, awareness of risks like wood lover's paralysis is vital.

The Psilocybe - Ovoideocystidiata - Mycotek Inject & Forget Growkit offers a unique opportunity to delve into the exploration of this fascinating mushroom. As always, ensure compliance with local laws, as possession may be restricted in some regions.
