A Brief History of Magic Mushrooms
So much attention is being paid to magic mushrooms today. We are all eager to discover the endless benefits they provide for our mental health and spiritual life. Scientists have found that mushrooms can positively change our lives through spiritual awakening and alleviating psychological problems such as anxiety, depression and addiction. But how did it all start? Who discovered the psilocybin-containing mushrooms, and how did we end up here? Let’s take a quick look at the history of magic mushrooms in the different historical periods.
Prehistoric times
Archaeologists have discovered iconographies with mushroom representations dating back to 10,000 BC.C.e.. This proves that psilocybin mushrooms were already used in pre-civilizational times. They were considered sacred in the various communities. Mushrooms are common on all seven continents, which means that people have consumed them throughout history.
Ancient times
In the recent past, tribal societies such as shamans have used mushrooms for spiritual, religious, and therapeutic purposes. During this period, most communities such as the Aztecs, Mayans, and Toltecs assumed that the psychedelic experience the mushrooms offered was an indication that the mushrooms paved the way for humans to communicate with the gods.
The ancient tribes of Serbia included psilocybin mushrooms in their fortune telling rituals. They also used the mushrooms to promote above-average physical performance, which allowed them to withstand the high temperatures in the Serbian region.
Ancient civilizations such as the Romans, Greeks and Egyptians regularly consumed psychedelics and were busy with various magic mushrooms. They used them in their leisure time as an intoxicant and also as an anesthetic for human blood victims.
Modern history
The use of psilocybin mushrooms in modern times can be traced back to 1799, when a family unknowingly collected, cooked, and consumed pointed conical mushrooms. Consequently, they experienced euphoria, confusion, altered perception of time and self, nausea and hallucinations.
The Haida Gwaii community in Canada has the entire history of Canadian psilocybin magic mushrooms. They were the first community in Canada to join other nations and use mushrooms for therapeutic and spiritual purposes. This was followed by the trend in other countries, such as Great Britain.
How did the term magic mushrooms come about?
In 1957, Life Magazine wrote a report titled “In Search of the Psychoactive, Magic Mushrooms,” which featured a husband, wife, and famous mycologist. The three were the first Westerners to participate in a sacred indigenous ceremony presided over by Maria Sabina, a famous shaman.
News of this event spread quickly and soon caught the attention of the famous LSD creator, Dr. Albert Hoffman. By 1958, the scientist had identified and isolated the two main active ingredients of magic mushrooms, psilocybin and psilocin.
Between 1960 and 1963, scientists Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert conducted several studies investigating the various uses of magic mushrooms. However, concerns have been raised about the safety of the preparation and the subjects (Harvard University students).
A failed excursion that ended with a student being sedated, the scientists abusing the drug, and violating the law prohibiting the use of students as subjects led to the dismissal of the two scientists. That was around the time the hippie movement was raging.
Unfortunately, psychedelics were banned by the UN Convention on Psychedelic Substances in 1971. It is only recently that people around the world have begun to shake off the stigma associated with psychedelics and gradually accept them because of their myriad benefits.
Today, magic mushrooms are very popular, especially in Canada. The consumption of psilocybin and psilocobyn-containing magic mushrooms is no longer just a social or legal problem. Mushroom lovers are free to buy a wide selection of mushrooms in the numerous pharmacies. Microdosing has become a growing trend that offers numerous benefits to consumers.
The future
Given the worldwide renaissance of psychedelics, we can expect more studies based on psychedelics in the future. There are different psilocybe genus with different effects. Cooperation will be inevitable, and the only result to be expected is that science will finally catch up with the knowledge of the ancient tribes of civilization.

What is the future of medical psychedelics in Germany?
Germany has one of the most progressive health policies and plays a pioneering role in drug reforms. In addition to having the best cannabis in the world, Germany is currently considered a stronghold for psychedelics in general and psychedelic-supported research.
The renaissance is real, and it has only just begun. One thing is certain: The future for medical psychedelics, especially psilocin magic mushrooms, in Germany is bright. To understand the progress we have made, it is advisable to take a look into the past, present and future of the psychoactive categories.
The past
In the 1940s and 1950s, researchers around the world were busy researching the different types of psychedelic mushrooms and the myriad benefits that magic mushrooms could offer consumers. The substances have immense therapeutic, medical and spiritual potential.
Substances such as LSD and psilocybin have been shown to be extremely useful in treating mental illness, addiction and dependence. They offered a more efficient, faster and safer alternative to electroshock therapy, years of therapy, experience, solitary confinement and lobotomy. Some of these methods were immature and continue to contribute significantly to the stigma of mental illness to this day.
Psychedelics have made dealing with and treating drugs from addiction and mental illness more humane and economical.
Unfortunately, several well-known personalities have been concerned about the risks that psychedelics bring. In addition, at that time the “hippies” and “free spirits” were rampant. The contempt for psychedelics and the people who actively consumed them sparked a widespread movement specifically to stop their use in any form. In 1968, psychedelics were denounced, which meant that all research carried out had to be abandoned.
The Present
Fast forward to the present. A new era is dawning, and the psychedelic renaissance is here. Germany has become the center of psychedelic research. How did we get here? Where does this sudden interest in psychedelics come from?
The German Mental Health Crisis
The mental health crisis and its assessment in Germany has become a threat. More and more people are suffering and the current solutions do not seem to work for everyone, which is why alternatives must be sought. Psychedelics and drugs such as psilocybin, mushrooms and LSD offer the best alternative, for example as an antidepressant. Research shows that psilocybin can positively change lives by rewiring the brain to adapt new thoughts, ideas, habits, and memories (neuroplasticity).
Psilocybin culture in Germany
Psilocybin and “Germany” are often associated with Goa, techno and psytrance parties in their language, depending on the case. But the psilocybin culture has evolved from a spectacle to an everyday norm in German life through the practice of microdosing magic mushrooms and get their own mushroom rating.
Microdosing magic mushrooms and buying them is a popular way for Germans to enjoy the benefits of psilocybin. Microdosing magic truffles and other items has been shown to boost creativity and energy and relieve depression and anxiety. It can be a more productive alternative to your morning coffee.
Many organizations and foundations such as Psychedelishe Gesellschaft have established themselves in Germany. Their goal is to promote the positive effects of psilocybin. We also recommend Magic Mushroom Magazine, a popular psilocybin publication based in Germany.
Are magic mushrooms legal in Germany?
Are psychedelic articles illegal?
According to § 29 Abs.1 BtMG Annex 1 possession, import, trade, transport, in short, any handling of magic mushrooms and their products are prohibited. Be it to have them in the shopping cart with the help of e-mail, to sort them there – the psilocybe mushroom is a drug and since the mushrooms are not individually named in the Narcotics Act, but the possession of the active ingredient psilocybin and psilocin is prohibited. So if you buy a few grams of mushrooms in Amsterdam and are stupidly checked at the border, you have a problem. If you order the psilocybin magic mushrooms or mushroom-based preparations and active ingredients such as chocolate, honey, etc. – online, you can assume that the shipment will be intercepted and confiscated at customs. You can easily buy many types of magic mushrooms legally in Holland or order them on the Internet from various providers. In Germany, however, the active ingredients psilocybin and psilocin fall under Annex 1 of the Narcotics Act and are therefore illegal.
What are Magic Truffles?
Truffles are a by-product of the well-known magic mushrooms. Truffles and magic mushrooms are often used interchangeably, although there is a slight difference. Truffles grow underground and never come to the surface, while mushrooms are the fruits that sprout above ground. Both parts of the plant produce psychedelic effects. Magic truffles include Tampanensis truffles, which can also produce hallucinations as an effect.
First-hand reports show that truffle trips are often a bit milder, while magic mushroom trips tend to be more profound, intense and introspective. However, since the chemical compounds of truffles and mushrooms are identical, there should be no qualitative difference. One possible reason that truffles are milder may be that they are supplied in certain quantities, so consumption is more standardized. Why it is important to know the differences between magic mushrooms and truffles in the Dutch area, we explain later (spoiler: one is prohibited).)
Truffles and magic mushrooms: what effect do they have?
Truffles and magic mushrooms contain a compound called psilocybin, which increases serotonin activity in the brain. Truffle hunting in Holland can make the user euphoric, make them feel at peace with the world, and they can be very introspective and insightful (and probably a bit afraid of the crappy weather there). The colors and geometric patterns become more vivid. In some reports, nausea is mentioned as a side effect of the trip. The drugs have different effects through their active ingredients and this also varies with the different types of mushrooms.
The journey with psilocybin mushrooms
The journey of the mushrooms takes between four and six hours (sometimes in waves), but the time is often distorted when you are on the trip. It depends on the strength of the magic truffle and the mood or state of mind the user is in while taking it. Some people do just fine, while others panic because they think they’re stuck in a never-ending time warp. Much like the people who say “time heals everything” during a bad breakup, I’m not going to tell you, “It’s just a trip, don’t panic.” All you can do is get through the situation and have a friend to calm you down and watch over you.
Do you change your attitude for the better?
Magic mushrooms have been shown to have a profound healing effect. Clinical psychologist Ros Watts, PhD, from Imperial College London, is one of the leading researchers in the field of psilocybin. We believe this is why many study participants are able to break out of rigid, limiting patterns; after the session, they often describe their ability to see, feel, and do things in a new way.”
How to eat magic truffles?
Like magic mushrooms, magic truffles are edible, but taste bad. They were once described to me as chewing an old, soft nut that you rubbed in the dirt.”
Unfortunately, unlike a Jägermeister, you can’t wash them down so quickly. In order to effectively release the psilocybins, it must be chewed slowly before swallowing. But it might be a good idea to mix them with a few chips or put the mushrooms on a pizza.
A loophole in legislation: magic mushrooms and the mushroom are illegal, so why can you buy in the truffle?
The Dutch are trying to decriminalise drug use as much as possible, so that it becomes a private matter for each individual and does not fall within the competence of the law enforcement system.
However, in 2008, there were protests against hallucinogens after a girl jumped out of the window under the influence of hallucinogens. The girl’s parents blamed the state of the Netherlands because the drug was legal. As a result, several politicians campaigned for a ban on the sale of mushrooms.
A list of mushrooms was banned by legislation, but one species was omitted from the list: the truffles! That’s why you can still legally buy truffles in the Netherlands and travel spiritually throughout your physical journey through Amsterdam.
Where can I buy mushrooms in Holland?
Where are magic mushrooms legal?
Truffles can be bought in the Netherlands in a smart shop or paddo (which is different from a café). The Smart Shops and their account were opened in 1993 and had items for sale such as herbal drinks, Magic Mushroom Growkit, magic truffles, vitamins, magic mushrooms. Magic mushrooms then became known as articles. Most of them are in English and you have to sit there if you want to be satisfied with your psilos results. The world of drugs there usually has a good service, as long as you make a good picture.
Like the weed in Amsterdam’s coffee shops, there are ridiculous names and designations for the truffles and magic mushrooms. Mexicana’s, Dragons Gynamite, Tampanensis to name a few. Other countries have other names in their own language.
Ask the shopkeeper for advice on what deals to buy, or even better, take an experienced friend you trust and who knows your limits. As soon as you have added the products to the shopping cart, you may also be able to look forward to discounts for various test shrooms and the bestizers will certainly be happy about an evaluation of your order. However, we do not recommend giving your true e-mail address and often asking correctly whether you are really ready for the topic.
How much should I take?
It is recommended that each person take between 5-10 milligrams. In Holland, truffles are usually sold in 15 or 20 milligrams. Each box has a potency indicator.A box has different prices, but usually costs between 10 and 40 €.
What to do (and not do) when you’re high on truffles
Don’t do what my friend did and don’t go to the Van Gogh Museum. Trippy Van Gogh paintings probably won’t calm you down enough if you’re trying to keep calm while hordes of people stare at you and aren’t allowed to talk.
Take them with you with people you trust completely.
DO NOT consume them if you are in a poor mental state
Move them to a safe or quiet environment such as an apartment, forest, or park.
Don’t panic—if the journey gets too intense, tell a friend, take a deep breath, and tell yourself it’s going to be over soon.
Eat sugar if you want to soften the high, because dextrose is known to weaken the effects.
Take a sober tripsitter to take care of you while you’re high. In this sense…
Psychedelic micro-doping
You are not sure if the mushroom trip is something for you? Why not start your truffle experience in the Netherlands with a microdose? In this way, you can safely test whether you tolerate the drug well. Consuming smaller amounts of psychedelics is considered extremely beneficial, and first-hand reports are almost unanimous about the positive effects.
A study at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore has shown that a mushroom trip alleviates the anxiety of people with life-threatening cancer and leads to a dramatic improvement in mood and well-being.
One user’s report shows how the small dosage dramatically helped him cope with the grief of losing his child. He comments: “On the days I took the dose, my mind felt more open and free… I felt closer to nature, which seemed more beautiful to me, and I felt more “present” in the moment, better connected to my family and my own feelings, more willing to start conversations with strangers. The dose was too low to cause visual disturbances. It was more of a feeling of excited openness – I noticed details that I had missed before.”
It is also worth noting that there are people in the Netherlands who actively take LSD or other psychedelics to increase their creativity and productivity at work.
Truffle consumption in the Netherlands can be an eye-opening experience with long-lasting effects if the user is informed and sensible about the drug. You always have to be aware of the possible side effects and use them appropriately, but if you are informed, you should not be afraid to have new experiences.
Summarizing
In general, pay attention to what you buy on the Internet from which group. There are many consumers who have had problems because of ownership. Your different shopping cart with psilocybe Semilanceata as active ingredient or normal psilocin magic mushrooms also have different effects on you. Do not be bald, use mushrooms with psychoactive agents with caution and, above all, become a representative of this world. Shops are normal with shopping cart, review, have magic mushroom grow kit or other psilocin magic mushrooms. The main thing is that magic mushrooms are fun and you can sort yourself well.
