This article discusses how to make cannabis brownies yourself and the approximate number of brownies to consume to achieve the desired effect.
Chances are, the first time you ate an edible was a weed brownie.
If if you hear the words “edible” or “cook your weed,” chances are cannabis brownies will come to mind. There is simply no cannabis product or pastry more cult than simple and reliable cannabis brownies – no matter how popular THC gummies, mints candies or chocolates are.
That makes sense. Cannabis brownies are easy to make, and their rich chocolate taste masks any trace of weed. And since it’s a cooked dessert, it pairs perfectly with a cannabis-infused fat like cannabis butter. In addition, a brownie dish is perfect to share and distribute your weed as you please.
Why make cooked products when you can just smoke weed?
You already have some cannabis and you may be thinking you can smoke a joint while you’re reading this article, so why make brownies? That’s right, and every type of cannabis high has its time and place, but there are good reasons why people take the time and trouble to make edibles.
First of all, edibles produce a completely different effect than smoked cannabis. Food products are for those who want to have an intense experience for a few hours (or more). It takes about an hour to an hour and a half for them to produce their effects, and they produce a powerful physical high and a feeling of euphoria that can manifest as waves of laughter, getting stuck on the couch. They may not be consumed every day, but edibles are definitely something special.
Besides getting high, they should not be smoked, can be ingested discreetly and are a good option for people who do not want to bother with joints, bongs or others.
Be careful not to make the same mistake as with smoked cannabis!
One thing to pay attention to with edibles is to take your time. It can take up to an hour and a half or more for the effects to be felt, and less experienced people take this as a sign that they don’t feel anything and are still eating a brownie.
Start with a low dose and take your time. Next time, you’ll know how much and how well it works and how long you’ll have to wait.
How to make cannabis butter
Making your own edibles can really take the experience to the next level, and the key is making a cannabis infusion.
Cannabinoids, including the main protagonists THC and CBD, are fat-soluble, meaning they must be consumed with fat in order to be broken down in the body. By infusing a fat like butter or coconut oil with THC, you get the right THC with the benefits of terpenes and flavonoids and can keep it whenever you crave something edible.
For pastries like brownies, there’s nothing better than cannabis butter, and making it really couldn’t be simpler.
1.Decarboxylate your cannabis
You really should not miss this step. Decarboxylation is a process that activates compounds in cannabis and turns THCA into THC, so marijuana produces the intoxicating intoxication you’re likely looking for. All you have to do is grind about half an ounce (about 14g) of cannabis (not too little) and put it in the oven for about 30-45 minutes at about 220-245°F (105-120°C), being careful that it doesn’t get too hot.
Check out our step-by-step guide: How to decarboxylate cannabis
2.Mix it with the butter on the fire.
Boil a cup of water with a cup of butter until the butter melts. Add the decarboxylated cannabis, mix well and let stand over low heat – 160-180°F (70-80°C) – for about 2-3 hours, making sure it does not boil. Remove it from the heat and, once it has cooled, filter it through a silk cloth into a container.
There is no specific rule regarding how much cannabis to use, and you can experiment with more or less and more or less strong strains.

Recipe: Making weed brownies
A simple recipe impossible to miss is that of the Washington Post, which uses cannabis butter and other ingredients. (And to be honest, we like the idea of using one of America’s best-known newspapers for a cannabis brownie recipe.)
Ingredients and metrics
For this recipe, you will need:
- 4 tablespoons cannabis butter
- 113 grams of sweet butter
- 340 grams of dark chocolate, coarsely ground
- 1 cup brown sugar (brown sugar)
- 0.75 cup fine white sugar
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 x 13 inch (22x33cm) mold
Melt the butter and cannabis butter, add the chocolate and mix with a whisk until melted.
Add brown sugar, white sugar and salt, stir and set aside (e.g. on another baking sheet) to cool.
Beat the eggs in a bowl until foamy, then add the vanilla.
Add the melted chocolate to the egg mixture, making sure the chocolate is not too hot.
Stir in the flour until well mixed.
Pour the dough into the pan on a baking sheet and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
Remove from the oven, let the brownies cool, then pour a glass of milk, eat the piece in the corner and cancel all projects for the evening.
Why not just use a commercially purchased brownie mix?
Homemade desserts are great, but you may not have time to prepare them. Making cannabis brownies from a pack of ready-made brownies couldn’t be simpler. All you have to do is replace the amount of oil or butter indicated in the recipe on the package with cannabis butter.

How many cannabis brownies should you eat?
Every body is different and how you react to food depends largely on your metabolism, tolerance, and experience.
The best rule of thumb is to “start slowly” – cut a small piece of brownies and wait at least an hour and a half to see how you feel.
If the above cannabis butter recipe is made with cannabis with a THC content of about 14%, each teaspoon of cannabis butter contains about 40 mg of THC. This means that if you use 4 tablespoons of the cannabis butter in question in your brownies, the whole pan should contain about 480 mg of THC.
The recipe says it gives about 24 2-inch (5cm) cannabis brownies, so there are 20 mg of THC per serving. Since an average THC gum contains about 10 mg of THC, a single brownie should suffice.
If you want a smaller serving of brownies, you can of course use 3 tablespoons of cannabis butter and add a tablespoon of normal butter to the bowl. Of course, the equation also goes the other way if you feel ready.
But the key rule for cannabis brownies is this: they’re rarely dud.
