Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) is a small plant native to South Africa, where three hundred years ago the Khoikhoi chewed the root for its euphoric effects. The Dutch who arrived in South Africa called it kaugoed, which means chewing substance.

It grows up to 30 cm tall with low growing branches and thick, fleshy leaves. The plant produces small but striking yellow flowers.

Kanna cultivation

Growing Sceletium tortuosum plants from seeds is very similar to growing cacti. Both cultivation and caretaking is considered to be quite easy. The recommend method of growing from seeds is to scatter them onto general cactus soil, press them down slightly and water. The germination time ranges between two weeks to two months.
